Fruit juice expert Höllinger is known and beloved for its Styrian Apple Juice. The beverage brand with its Managing Director Gerhard Höllinger is investing and expanding. Since October they have enlarged the apple juice storage in Styria. Up to 1.8 million litres of apple juice can be stored in the new 50 storage tanks. Around 1.1 million euros have been invested. In the future, this will reduce the transport costs and save CO2 emissions.
In 1997, Gerhard Höllinger was the first one to put directly pressed apple juice from Styrian apples in the stores. Today, Styrian Apple Juice is a favoured product in Austria. With its natural taste it is one of the most popular fruit juices of them all. With sustainability at the forefront, the expansion of the storage tanks was carried out directly in Styria, where the production takes place.
50 storage tanks in St. Stefan ob Stainz
Just in time for this year's apple harvest in October, 50 additional storage tanks with a total capacity of up to 1.8 million litres of apple juice will be ready. Höllinger is investing around 1.1 million euros in the expansion. In cooperation with Ribes Frucht & Saft KG, which is based in idyllic village of St. Stefan ob Stainz, the Styrian apple juice is produced entirely locally. The fresh fruit from the regional farmers is delivered directly to the production site and the yearly amount of the apple juice is pressed during the fall harvest. It is stored in the new tanks until bottling. This works perfectly for everyone involved, Höllinger, the Styrian farmers and the environment.
Our own „3G“ rule, fresh and regional
"How does our juice production works? We designed our own „3G“ rule, which is: grown (gewachsen), picked (gepflückt) and pressed (gepresst) in Styria," explains the owner and managing director Gerhard Höllinger. The expansion in Styria has other advantages apart from the saved CO2 emissions: On-site processing guarantees maximum freshness. Next to simplicity, naturalness and agility, one of the most important values for Höllinger. The quality of the pure Styrian Apple Juice is unquestioned. Nevertheless, Gerhard Höllinger adds: "Local is the new organic. The more regional our production is, the more sustainable our relationship with the environment.“
aws Funding supports domestic producers
The large-scale expansion was supported by an aws program of Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) - the federal government's development bank. By promoting particularly sustainable projects that support regional and domestic farms, the aim is to strengthen value creation in the region. It is also important to preserve small-scale farms, jobs in the region and the cultural landscape. The project is an important step towards strengthening regional agriculture and thus ensuring the security of supply with local products.
About Höllinger
Innovative and high quality organic fruit juices are what Höllinger is known for. It all began in 1998, when Gerhard Höllinger introduced the first directly pressed, naturally cloudy apple juice made from Styrian apples to Austrian food retailers under the mission statement "For our children, the best quality is just good enough". The basic values of that time - simplicity, naturalness & flexibility - are still in focus today: simple as well as delicious recipes without additives and the flexibility to react to current taste and nutrition trends have ensured the company its successes. Today, Höllinger exports its wide range of high-quality organic products such as organic fruit juices, organic soft drinks, organic school juices, organic syrups, organic sports drinks and organic shots to 42 countries worldwide. They bring the full taste of nature directly to the glass - as delicious as fruit fresh from the tree!
